Is it worth it?
I ask myself this often, maybe too often.
On top of writing, I am a husband and a father, I have a full-time day job, I teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu three times a week and I do a weekly BJJ podcast (Jiu-Jitsu After Dark). There isn't much time in my day when I'm not working on something.
Is it worth it?
I have four books, all self-published, and they sell okay, but at $0.99/each I'm a ways off of Stephen King money.
My new agent is shopping my latest book, so that' something.
It could be worth it.
I have been getting good feedback on my podcast and get more listeners each week. I have a few sponsors that help me out with BJJ gear so I don't have to worry about that end of my financial concerns. But there's no money in it as of yet.
In the long run, it could be worth it.
I love to teach BJJ and compete. It keeps me in shape, it helps me vent my daily frustrations, overall, it keeps me a pretty calm person.
So far, it has been worth it.
But I have a family. A beautiful family that I love more than anything and if they asked me to give up any of these I would.
But they don't.
So I spend a lot of time doing other things.
Is it worth it?
I don't know yet, but I hope so.
All I do know is that I don't want to look back ten years from now and ask, "would it have been worth it?"
